Let’s get to know the artist:
Dina Chamblee
1. Where are you from?
Crete, Illinois
2. How did you begin your art journey?
I started 3 years ago, but really focusing on painting the last 1.5 years. I have always been creative but let a lot of inside voices determine me putting myself out there.
I started with really focusing on acrylic painting when asked to do a window project for Northfield Square Mall in Bradley, IL. I fell in love with painting and have been focusing on acrylic medium on canvases. I have dabbled in mixed media as well.
I completed a mural on a vinyl fence - 6' by 80' in Manteno IL. That is my greatest accomplishment to date.
3. What inspires you?
I love colors! Chaos of colors to bring my artwork alive. Colors give off so much energy
4. Does your piece always end up looking like the idea that inspired you?
Sometimes yes... sometimes no. I think that is a lot of the way in doing any form of art. Sometimes it goes as planned but they sometimes we are pleasantly surprised by the results.
5. Do you have a favorite music/artist/genre while working on a piece?
I don't really listen to anything when painting. I just love getting lost in my art.
6. Most artists are creative in many ways, what is your favorite?
I love to paint. Bringing things alive and filled with energy.
7. Do you have a favorite piece of your work and why?
a 11' x 14' Acrylic painting of a rooster titled "Rise & Ruffle". You either ruffle the day or you are ruffled by the day!
8. Does your art help with other areas of your life?
I am a 20 year Registered Nurse who is finishing out her career as a Middle School nurse. Been doing this for over 4 years. I love it and creating art is my down time and stress relief from the chaos that is sometimes comes with dealing with pre-teens and new teenagers.
9. How do you define success as an artist?
I think doing what makes you happy and seeing other people being moved or have thoughts on your artwork is success. Money would be fantastic but spreading joy is far better accomplishment.
10. How can people who are interested in your work contact you?
